NOBLE expresses concern over recent Presidential pardons

The National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) announced concerns regarding Presidential pardons and commutation of sentences issued by President Donald Trump and Former President Joe Biden. While they acknowledged their support and collaboration with both administrations, “We have worked with both the Trump and Biden administrations in criminal justice reform, law enforcement accountability, gun violence reduction, officer health and wellness, and a host of other areas. We must, however, share our concern over recent presidential pardons and sentence commutations for individuals convicted of killing or assaulting law enforcement officers.” said the NOBLE organization in a press release. They also expressed that they do not agree with Trump issuing pardons to individuals involved in the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol and Biden issuing commutation for Leonard Peltier, who was convicted of killing two FBI agents in 1975. In the press release, NOBLE stated. “While we respect the sanctity of all lives, it is NOBLE’s belief that pardoning or commuting sentences of those convicted of assaulting and killing law enforcement officers shows disrespect for the service provided by those who commit their lives to public safety.” NOBLE believes that these acts are disrespectful to law enforcement officers and diminish the severity of the crimes which may risk similar actions in the future. The organization is encouraging community involvement to promote fairness in the justice system.
