New exhibit at the African American Museum of Iowa
The African American Museum of Iowa’s exhibit “Racist Things” explores dehumanizing imagery in homes, available to view until Aug 16, 2025.
The African American Museum of Iowa unveiled a new exhibit, “Racist Things: Hateful Imagery in the American Home”. The exhibit was revealed on September 13 and will be available until August 16, 2025, at the African American Museum of Iowa in Cedar Rapids. The exhibit recognizes how the post-Civil War society and the culture surrounding Jim Crow contributed to the acceptance of dehumanizing Black imagery. The museum exhibit also highlights how such imagery manifested into objects present in homes and how it relates to biases against Black individuals.
