Black History Month Youth Town Hall, Greater Opportunities Inc.
Celebrate Black History Month at the Youth Town Hall event on Feb. 8 in Des Moines. Featuring an exhibit, performances, speakers and more.
To kick off Black History Month, Greater Opportunities Inc. will partner with Bettering Youth African American Cultural Museum sponsored by Impact Community Action Partnerships. This event will feature youth educating attendees with Black history facts, a Black exhibit for showcasing, and various performances. The town hall will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Feb. 8 at the Polk County North Side Community Center, in Des Moines. The school district will be present for the event with the Superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools, Dr. Roberts on the panel. Speakers include State Representative Ruth Ann Gaines and former State Representative, Wayne Ford who is also the founder of Urban Dreams. Also, during the town hall, local Des Moines freedom fighters will be recognized. The purpose of the town hall is to encourage youth to engage in community conversations about challenges to overcome in education.
