Rest in Iowa: George Foreman’s family visits boxer’s burial site in Sioux City cemetery
Even though boxing legend George Foreman wasn’t born in Iowa, he wanted to be buried in Sioux City.
George Foreman, a boxing champion who died on March 21, 2025, was born in Marshall, Texas, but chose to be buried in Iowa. Foreman visited the Loess Hills area in 1988, and family members recounted the peace he said he had felt there. Foreman was buried in Sioux City on April 17, 2025, and his family members returned to Sioux City on April 16, 2026, to visit Foreman’s monument and thank city officials who helped facilitate his burial, the city’s press release stated. The heavyweight boxing legend, author, ordained minister and grill maker is buried in Sioux City’s Logan Park Cemetery, overlooking the Loess Hills.
