Protests and promises of change. Then, backlash and backpedaling. Most of those Black Lives Matter signs dotting front lawns and windows have long since packed the landfills. Building owners painted over murals. Protesters have returned to their homes. Many demands remain unmet.

Police and ICE violence continue to harm Black and Brown communities. Anti-Blackness is rampant. Government officials are using their powers for everything from upending legislation meant to ensure Black voting rights to crying reverse racism for everything else they intend to take.

Six years have passed since that fateful day when Floyd’s life ended so violently at the hands of the police, and collectively, we must fight harder than ever.
