Iowa House Republicans proposed SNAP benefit restrictions — no meat, white bread

Iowans who receive SNAP benefits could experience drastic changes in a plan proposed by Iowa House Republicans.

HF3, introduced by House Republicans, would affect what Iowans receiving SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) can place in their grocery baskets. The proposal would limit the offerings to what is available to WIC (Women, Infants and Children) recipients. That means no white bread, fresh meat or certain types of cheese, among other other changes.
