Event in Cedar Rapids in observance of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

Join the African American Museum of Iowa at 6-7:30 p.m. on July 2, for a talk with Dr. Dave Markward about his memoir.

The African American Museum of Iowa to host a sit-down talk with Dave Markward, author and former Cedar Rapids Community School District superintendent. In observance of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Markward will discuss his memoir, “From Dubuque to Selma and Beyond: My Journey to Understand Racism in America.” This sit-down will be facilitated by local leader and civil rights advocate Karl Cassell. The event, ‘”Let’s Talk” will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at the African American Museum of Iowa, 55 12th Ave SE. Cedar Rapids.

The program is open to the public and free to attend. Register here to reserve a spot. Light refreshments will be provided, and autographed books will be sold. The African American Museum of Iowa will be accepting donations for this event. This event is sponsored by the City of Iowa City Office of Equity and Human Rights, the City of Marion Civil Rights Commission, the city of Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission and the NAACP of Cedar Rapids.
