Black Iowa News received an email response to a candidate questionnaire sent to Vergarie Sanford who is running for Iowa House District 19, which includes the southern part of Council Bluffs. Sandford describes herself as a mom, breast cancer survivor, mentor, ordained minister, professor and lifelong Iowan. Sandford recently received a doctorate in higher education and administration from Oral Roberts University, according to her website. Sandford is an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska in Omaha.
