2024 Iowa African American Hall of Fame Honorees
The Iowa African American Hall of Fame will honor 2024 inductees on Sept 21 at the State Historical Building in Des Moines.
The Des Moines Urban Experience and Iowa State University announced this year’s inductees into the Iowa African American Hall of Fame. The 2024 honorees are Celeste M. Lawson from Des Moines, Edith Renfrow Smith from Grinnell, Dr. Barbara Woods from Ames, and Bridget Reed from Waterloo. The event will start at 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 21 at the State Historical Building of Iowa, in Des Moines. The Des Moines Urban Experience will host a social hour at 5 p.m. before the event starts in collaboration with the State Historical Building of Iowa. Registration is not required. Both the ceremony and the reception are open to the public. The Iowa African American Hall of Fame was established by the Connect Foundation as a way to recognize exceptional African Americans in the state of Iowa.
