Hot air balloon hunt returns to downtown Des Moines

The Great DSM Hot Air Balloon Hunt will be held from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, March 4 in downtown Des Moines. More than a dozen colorful balloons will glow in different locations throughout downtown if the weather permits.

Balloon locations will be announced on Saturday before the event, officials said in a press release. Look for clues about the event on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.  Participants can earn a chance to win two tickets to the National Balloon Classic, which will be held July 28 – Aug. 5 in Indianola, by posting their hot air balloon photos from the event on social media using #downtownDSM. One contest entry per person. 

“The Great DSM Hot Air Balloon Hunt provides residents and guests a unique opportunity to add surprise and delight to their Saturday evening as they discover downtown Des Moines,” said Molly Atkins, an events specialist at the Greater Des Moines Partnership, in a press release. “The activity also gives all participants additional opportunities to explore and support Downtown DSM businesses, including restaurants and local stores.”
