First day of 2023 Iowa legislative session is Jan. 9

The Iowa legislature reconvenes on Monday, Jan. 9, with three new Black legislators:

• State Rep. Mary Madison (D-West Des Moines)
• State Rep. Jerome Amos Jr. (D-Waterloo)
• State Sen. Izaah Knox (D-Des Moines)

There are 34 Republicans and 16 Democrats in the Senate. In the House, there are 64 Republicans and 36 Democrats.
