Federal Court Sets New Trial Date for Ian Roberts’ Immigration Case

The former Des Moines Schools superintendent Ian Roberts will head to trial early next year.

The former Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent faces potential deportation on trial.

Former Des Moines Schools Superintendent Ian Roberts received a new trial date in Federal court. The case, originally set for Dec. 1, was moved to 9 a.m. March 2, 2026 at the United States Courthouse in Des Moines, unless he makes a plea deal.

Roberts was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in September after allegedly attempting to flee from immigration officers, who allegedly found $3,000 in cash, a loaded gun, and a knife inside his vehicle when he was arrested. ICE claims Roberts was detained for “being an illegal alien in posession of firearms” after releasing his alleged history of felonies during his time in the United States.
