SUMMARY:Soulja Boy
DESCRIPTION:Soulja Boy\nLocation: Wooly’s – 504 E Locust St\, Des Moines\, IA 50309 \nDoors open at 6 – event starts at 7 \n  \n \n  \nDeAndre Ramone Way (born July 28\, 1990 in Chicago\, Illinois)\, better known by his stage name Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em\, or simply Soulja Boy\, is an American pop rap artist. In September 2007\, his single “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The single was initially self-published on the Internet\, and it became a number-one hit in the United States for seven non-consecutive weeks starting in September 2007. \nIn November 2005\, Way posted his songs on the video-based social community YouTube. Following positive reviews on the site\, Soulja Boy then established his own web pages on YouTube and Myspace. In March 2007\, he recorded “Crank That” and released his first independent album Unsigned and Still Major\, followed by a low-budget video filmed demonstrating the “Soulja Boy” dance. By the end of May 2007\, “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” received its first air play and Soulja Boy met with Mr. Collipark to sign a deal with Interscope Records. \nOn August 12\, 2007\, the song appeared on the Emmy-award winning HBO series Entourage\, and by September 1\, it topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Ringmasters charts. Way’s major label debut album Souljaboytellem.com\, which was reportedly recorded using just the demo version of FL Studio\, was released in the United States on October 2\, peaking at #4 on both the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. \nOn December 9\, 2007\, Way was sued by William Lyons (aka Souljah Boy of the Home Dogs) who claims he first created the stage name ‘Souljah Boy’. \nIn the 2008 Grammy Awards\, Soulja Boy was nominated for a Grammy awards for Best Rap Song with “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”.

SUMMARY:Warrant Resolution Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Warrant Resolution Clinic\nEvent details: \n\n\nDate: Friday\, April 3\, 2026\nTime: 9 am to 4 pm\nLocation: Polk County River Place – 2309 Euclid Ave.\, Des Moines\n\n\n \n  \nDES MOINES\, Iowa — The Polk County Attorney’s Office has announced a new effort to help those with outstanding low-level warrants resolve their legal issues. \nThe free Warrant Resolution Clinic is being held on April 3rd and is a first for Polk County\, according to the county attorney’s office. It’s designed to assist residents with non-violent warrants\, like traffic offenses\, misdemeanors\, and failure-to-appear warrants. It only applies to warrants issued in Polk County that are not for felonies. \n“This clinic promotes public safety\,” Polk County Attorney Kimberly Graham said. “It allows people to take care of their legal obligations without fear of arrest\, helping keep their families\, law enforcement officers\, and the community safe.” \nThe Polk County Clerk of Court’s Office said there are more than 8\,200 outstanding non-felony warrants in the county. Officials hope the clinic will help to cut the volume of bookings into the Polk County Jail on low-level warrants. \nIf you’re planning to participate\, you need to register at this link first. If you aren’t eligible\, you’ll be notified. \nThere will be resources to assist in setting up payment plans for fines and fees and getting driver’s licenses back available at the clinic. Free childcare is also being provided.

SUMMARY:Sol Butler: An Olympian’s Odyssey through Jim Crow America Author Talk
DESCRIPTION:Sol Butler: An Olympian’s Odyssey through Jim Crow America Author Talk\nDate: February 26 \nTime: 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm \nEvent Categories: Black History Month\, Books \nAddress: 55 12th Ave SE Cedar Rapids\, Iowa 52401 \nLocation: African American Museum of Iowa \nPhone: 319-862-2101 \n \nJoin Brian Halstoos\, Professor of History at the University of Dubuque\, to discuss the publishing of his new book\, Sol Butler: An Olympian’s Odyssey through Jim Crow America.  The AAMI’s latest exhibit\, Rooted: Labor\, Land\, & Legacy\, will open 30 minutes prior to the event for visitors to explore. \n— \n“A superstar in both football and track and field Sol Butler pioneered the parlaying of sports fame into business prosperity. Brian Hallstoos tells the story of a Black athlete’s canny use of mainstream middle-class values and relationships with white society to transcend the athletic\, economic\, and social barriers imposed by white supremacy. Butler built on his feats as a high school athlete to become a four-year starter for the football team at Dubuque German College (later the University of Dubuque)\, a record-setting sprinter and long jumper\, and an Olympian at the 1920 Summer Games. Hallstoos follows Butler’s sporting accomplishments while charting how family and interracial communities influenced the ways Butler tested the limits of social and physical mobility and gave him an exceptional ability to discern where he might be most free. From there\, Hallstoos turns to Butler’s use of fame to boost his entrepreneurial efforts and his multifaceted success capitalizing on his celebrity in the Black communities of Chicago\, New York\, and Los Angeles. An engaging look at a forgotten trailblazer\, Sol Butler illuminates the multifaceted life of a Black sports entrepreneur.”
