Advertising Sales Representative

Black Iowa News is seeking an outgoing, motivated Advertising Sales Representative to help grow advertising revenue for Black Iowa News, The Black Iowa Newspaper and our digital platforms.

Responsibilities

• Meet with small and medium-sized business owners throughout the Des Moines metro area.
• Introduce businesses to advertising opportunities in The Black Iowa Newspaper, BLACKIOWANEWS.com, email newsletters and social media.
• Develop relationships with new and existing advertisers.
• Identify prospective advertisers and generate new sales.
• Meet established monthly and quarterly sales goals.
• Present advertising packages and prepare proposals.
• Collect advertising payments and maintain accurate records.
• Follow up with prospects and existing clients to encourage repeat advertising.

Requirements

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable approaching and meeting with business owners.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
• Must have access to your own vehicle for local sales visits.
• Previous sales, advertising, marketing or customer-service experience is preferred but not required.
• Must have basic computer skills and be able to use word processing apps

Compensation & Schedule

The Independent Contractor will receive:

• Hourly compensation at an amount equivalent to minimum wage + commission paid monthly
• Work Monday–Friday
• Approximately 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
• Primarily focused on sales calls, prospecting and in-person meetings throughout the Des Moines metro area.
