Juneteenth celebration events in Washington County
Washington for Justice hosts Juneteenth events June 17–20 with a film screening, educational talk and more in Washington County.
Washington for Justice will host three community events to celebrate Juneteenth and showcase Black talent. There will be a film screening, a celebration on Juneteenth Day and a music concert. The screening of “The Negro Artist” by spoken word artist Caleb Rainey will start at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17 at the Washington Public Library.
On Juneteenth Day, children’s author and business owner Abena Sankofa Imhotep will talk about the meaning behind the celebration and read from her book, “Omari’s Big Tree and the Mighty Djembe.” Later that evening the celebration will begin.
The Juneteenth day reading will start at 1 p.m. and the celebration will be at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 19 at the Washington Public Library. The last day of events will be a musical performance headlined by acclaimed musician, Dartanyan Brown. The concert will start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 20 at the Mills Seed Company Building. Washington for Justice is a non-profit organization whose focus lies in inclusivity. In an effort to keep these events free to the public, the organization has created a GoFundMe.
