African American Museum of Iowa announces Jacqueline Hunter as its new executive director

Jacqueline Hunter has been named executive director of the African American Museum of Iowa, bringing leadership and new initiatives.

The African American Museum of Iowa (AAMI) announced that Jacqueline Hunter will be the new executive director. Hunter previously served as an executive director for the Multicultural Family Center in Dubuque and currently works as the AAMI’s Museum Educator. During her role as Museum Director, she has introduced many new programs and partnerships to the organization. She has a substantial history as an educator working as a high school teacher and a professor.

Hunter will begin her role as executive director on Monday, Mar. 3. The AAMI Board of Directors will be holding a welcome ceremony for Hunter from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 6, at the African American Museum of Iowa, 55 12th Ave SE in Cedar Rapids.

In a press release, the AAMI Board President Abena Sankofa Imhotep stated, “We’re elated to welcome Jacqueline Hunter as the new Executive Director of the African American Museum of Iowa. Her path from Museum Educator to this leadership role underscores her commitment to the mission of the organization.”
